In an update published by Nigerian Tribune, All Progressives Congress governors rejected the Rainbow Coalition associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, arguing the platform could confuse campaigns and threaten President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 bid. After a meeting at the Imo Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, Progressive Governors’ Forum chairman Hope Uzodimma said members would not back any arrangement that weakens the APC or its candidates.
Wike answered that his support is for Tinubu, that the President is aware of the coalition, and that the PDP will still field candidates in other races. He said he never promised the ruling party a clean sweep below the presidency.
Daily Trust quoted Uzodimma’s communique: “The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President.” TheCable quoted Wike saying governors were unhappy with his ministerial appointment and that “The only person that can question me today is the President.”
Echotitbits take: The fight is about who controls state structures while a PDP minister campaigns for an APC president. Watch whether the APC National Working Committee forces a truce before nomination fights harden.
