In an update published by BusinessDay, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of its train services for the Easter period, including a special free ride offer on the Lagos-Osogbo route. This initiative is designed to ease the burden on commuters during the holiday season and encourage the use of rail as a preferred mode of transport.
The NRC management stated that additional coaches have been deployed across the standard gauge and narrow gauge lines to accommodate the surge in passenger volume. The free service, which is a collaboration between the NRC and the Osun State Government, will run for four days to facilitate travel for residents celebrating the festivities.
The Nation validated the report, quoting the NRC as offering “free ride on Lagos-Osogbo route for Easter,” while Tribune noted that the move is “part of efforts to provide palliative transport measures” for the public.
Echotitbits take: While free rides are a popular political move, the focus should remain on the security of the rail corridors. With the NRC expanding services, passengers will be watching to see if the increased frequency is matched by heightened security patrols.
