In an update published by Leadership (via Gazette), the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) has lauded the nomination of Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance. NECA Director-General, Adewale-Smart Oyerinde, stated that the appointment of a professional with deep roots in tax and fiscal policy is a “signal of readiness” for serious economic management.

Oyedele, who previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, is expected to lead the implementation of the very laws he helped design. He succeeds Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been moved to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.

BusinessDay validated the industry reaction, quoting a CEO who said, “Having an expert like Oyedele in the room ensures that policy is grounded in reality, not just politics.” The Nation also reported on the Senate confirmation process, with a lawmaker noting, “His first task will be defending the 2026 supplementary budget.”

Echotitbits take: This is “technocracy in action.” Oyedele is widely respected by the private sector, but his biggest challenge will be navigating the political interests of the 36 state governors who are often at odds with federal tax centralisation.
