In an update published by The Guardian, the Forum of Northern Christians has condemned a wave of attacks that have overshadowed Easter celebrations across Northern Nigeria. Reverend Joseph John Hayab, Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, noted that instead of spiritual reflection, many communities in states like Plateau, Kaduna, and Benue are observing the season in a state of mourning and fear.

The group highlighted recent violent incidents in Jos North and parts of Kaduna on Palm Sunday as evidence of a recurring security failure. They called on the federal government to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities from further abductions and killings.

Gazette Nigeria and Daily Trust also detailed these concerns, with Gazette Nigeria reporting that “PFN condemns Plateau killings, calls for urgent security action.” Daily Trust reported that “Nigerian clerics have criticised political leaders over alleged broken promises” regarding the safety of lives and property.

Echotitbits take: Security in the Middle Belt remains a persistent thorn in the side of the current administration. Despite numerous military operations, the cycle of seasonal violence continues to haunt religious festivities, putting pressure on the newly proposed state police reforms.
