According to reporting by the **News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)**, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a fresh directive to the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to escalate their offensive against bandits. The order aims to finally clear the remaining strongholds of criminal elements that have terrorized farming communities in the North West geopolitical zone.
General Oluyede emphasized that the military must transition from a defensive posture to a total neutralization strategy to ensure farmers can return to their lands ahead of the planting season. This directive comes amid rising concerns that food security might be compromised if agricultural hubs remain under the shadow of insecurity.
**Leadership** reported that the “Zamfara governor’s support for troops in insecurity combat is uncommon,” while **Premium Times** highlighted that “Kano and Taraba authorities are on high alert” to prevent any spillover of the conflict during the heightened operations.
**Echotitbits take:** The timing of this offensive is critical for the 2026 harvest cycle. Success here could lead to a significant drop in food inflation by late Q3; however, the military must ensure that “cleared” areas are permanently occupied to prevent the bandits’ return.
