A statement by the **National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)** reveals that Nigeria has taken a massive step toward completing its Digital Switchover (DSO) by onboarding over 100 channels to its free-to-air platform. The “FreeTV” initiative uses both satellite and internet delivery to bring high-quality digital content to millions of Nigerian households without a monthly subscription.

The new lineup is diverse, featuring 14 news stations, 15 general entertainment channels, and several dedicated movie and music outlets. NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu emphasized that this move is designed to provide clearer pictures and more opportunities for families to access information and entertainment.

Nigeria Communications Week reported that “57 of the channels are already live” and accessible via the FreeTV app. BusinessDay also confirmed the milestone, quoting Ebuebu: “It is one simple change for a better future,” as the country finally modernizes its broadcasting ecosystem.

**Echotitbits take:** This is a game-changer for Nollywood and local content creators. More free-to-air channels mean more demand for content, potentially creating a “gold rush” for producers who can fill these slots with high-quality local dramas and talk shows.
