Recent coverage by Leadership newspaper points to a new initiative by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), which has successfully trained 70 small-holder farmers in Adamawa State on global best practices. The capacity-building workshop was meticulously designed to transition local agrarian practices from mere subsistence farming to lucrative, export-oriented commercial agriculture.
During the intensive sessions, farmers were educated on stringent international quality standards, modern packaging techniques, and the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements necessary to penetrate the European and American markets. The NEPC emphasized that empowering grassroots farmers is vital for diversifying Nigeria’s export portfolio and reducing the nation’s over-reliance on crude oil revenues.
Participants were also introduced to streamlined logistics networks and financial avenues that facilitate seamless cross-border trade. Government officials present at the event promised sustained institutional support to ensure that the trained farmers can actually execute their first international shipments before the end of the harvest season.
