In an update published by Punch, Nigeria has started local production of dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated mosquito nets through Health Textiles Nigeria FZE, a Vestergaard-owned facility. The plant is expected to produce about 10 million nets annually at full scale and create more than 600 jobs.

Implementation details will determine the practical effect, particularly funding, institutional capacity, accountability and the ability to translate the announcement into measurable outcomes.

Local production can reduce import dependence and strengthen malaria-control supply chains, especially as insecticide resistance grows. What to watch is procurement uptake, quality assurance and whether locally produced nets remain price-competitive for large public-health campaigns.

Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare also corroborated the development, describing it as “approximately 10 million nets annually.” World Health Organization separately reported the same core development and used the phrase “dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated nets.”
