Reporting from Vanguard says retail petrol prices have moved higher again as global crude costs and domestic refinery pricing feed through Nigeria’s deregulated downstream market.
The newspaper reported major retail stations selling around the N1,375–N1,400 per litre range, increasing transport and operating costs for households and businesses.
Because petrol prices feed into freight, private power generation and commuting costs, a sustained increase could intensify inflation beyond the filling station.
Punch provided independent corroboration, reporting that “Petrol hits N1,395/litre”. A second sufficiently independent credible report was not located during this review, so further confirmation remains limited.
Echotitbits take: The next question is whether global crude prices ease or local supply and competition can absorb part of the shock before higher fuel costs spread further through consumer prices.
