Nigeria Uses BRICS Summit to Press for Reform of Global Finance and Governance

ThisDay reports that President Bola Tinubu used Nigeria’s participation at the BRICS summit in New Delhi to call for reform of global governance and international financial institutions.

In a speech delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria also sought deeper BRICS cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, fintech, telecommunications, cybersecurity and biotechnology.

The intervention positions Nigeria as a Global South advocate and as a potential gateway to African markets through AfCFTA, but influence will depend on converting summit diplomacy into trade, finance and technology partnerships.
