Vanguard reports that actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot publicly apologized to presidential Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila after a political fallout linked to the APC primary in Lagos.
Video from the meeting showed Elliot kneeling and prostrating as he sought reconciliation with the party leadership.
The Gazette independently reported that Elliot apologized “on his knees.” Emirate Radio also confirmed the meeting and quoted him saying, “I’m deeply sorry.”
Echotitbits take: The episode sits at the intersection of celebrity, politics and Yoruba public gestures of reconciliation. The apology is documented on video; what remains to be seen is whether it produces a substantive political reconciliation rather than a symbolic one.
