In an update published by **The Guardian**, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced plans to construct a 250-room five-star hotel in the state capital, Umuahia. The project is intended to position the state as a hub for business tourism and to provide high-end accommodation for investors who have been increasingly drawn to the state’s recent industrial reforms.
The Governor stated that the project will be a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), ensuring that state funds are leveraged effectively without compromising other social services. The hotel is expected to include a world-class convention center, which Otti hopes will host international trade summits within the next two years.
**Vanguard** noted that “the project is a key pillar of Otti’s urban renewal agenda,” while **Tribune** reported that “local residents are optimistic about the jobs the construction phase will generate.”
Echotitbits take: Alex Otti continues his streak of “private-sector style” governance. Umuahia has long lacked high-end infrastructure, and this project could finally make the state capital a credible venue for the “Aba-to-the-world” business crowd.
