In an update published by Premium Times, the ECOWAS Court of Justice has officially launched its Strategic Plan for 2026–2030, titled “Justice 2030.” The roadmap is designed to modernize regional justice delivery, enhance the protection of human rights, and strengthen the rule of law across the West African sub-region.

The court’s president, Ricardo Goncalves, stated that the plan represents a “turning point” in making the court more accessible to community citizens. Key priorities include the digitalization of judicial processes and fostering better legal harmonization among member states to resolve regional disputes more efficiently.

The Guardian reported that “the plan aims to bolster the court’s role in regional integration,” while Channels TV noted that “Justice 2030 focuses on deepening transparency and stakeholder engagement.”

Echotitbits take: A more efficient ECOWAS court is vital for cross-border trade and human rights. However, the real challenge remains enforcement; the court can pass judgments, but it still relies on member states’ willingness to obey them.
