    Police in Lagos Raids Black Spots, Arrests 720 Suspects with Incriminating Items

    The Lagos Police Command on Sunday arrested 720 suspects with incriminating items including locally-made guns and life cartridges, charms, weed suspected to be Indian hemp, substances suspected to be cocaine and some items suspected to have been looted from various shopping outlets within the state during the recent Endsars violence.

    According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, “the raids was carried out at 7am simultaneously on identified black spots, reasonably believed to be harbouring criminals and hoodlums, across the fourteen (14) Area Commamds in Lagos State”.

    The police spokesman stated that the sting operation was in line with the command’s resolve to launch an offensive against criminality and lawlessness in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

    “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, who matched his words with actions, had earlier warned and directed police officers and men to move against lawlessness and criminality in Lagos. He affirmed the zeal of the command to sustain the operations, even, beyond the yuletide season.

    “CP Hakeem Odumosu has however directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, panti, to commence discreet investigation on the arrested suspects for immediate prosecution. He also urged those whose items were looted during the recent Endsars violence to come up for claims of their items with prove of ownership.”

    Furthermore, the police commissioner was said to have commended officers of the Lagos Police Command.

    “The police chief commended the officers and men of the command for the successful operations, while he charged them to be at alert for more operations across the state” Adejobi stated.

    Following the violence that erupted after hoodlums hijacked the EndSARS protest, the Lagos Police Command relaunched its anti crime strategies to curb crimes and criminality across the state, and solidify the security apparatus of Lagos State.

    #EndSARS: Lagos Police Command Bans Protest, Gathering, Procession under Whatever Guise

    Lagos State Police Command Tuesday declared that no protest or gathering or procession under whatever guise, would henceforth be permitted within the state.

    The command, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the #EndSAR protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who want to run down the state.

    He explained that the police command would resist such state of anarchy, unrest and brouhaha with all powers within the ambit of the law.

    “Due to the new development of violent attacks on police officers and men and formations including innocent Nigerians in Lagos State, and the 24-hour curfew imposed by Lagos State Government with effect from 4pm of today (October 20), Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that henceforth no protest or gathering or procession under whatever guise, is permitted within Lagos State.

    “In the light of the above, all security agencies have deployed adequate personnel to take charge and enforce the curfew across the state.

    “In the same vein, the command regrets to confirm the setting ablaze of Orile Police State today at about 10am, where some of our policemen were critically injured and unconfirmed reports state that one of them is dead.

    “It’s crystal clear that the #EndSARS protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who want to run down the state and the police command will resist such state of anarchy, unrest and brouhaha with all powers within the ambit of the law.

    “While the command is resolute in sustenance of human rights and democratic tenets, the general public is hereby warned to comply with the curfew and desist from any act of violence in the state as the command will resist such in totality,” said the statement.

    Lagos Police Decline Further Comments on Abiola’s Sons’ Detention

    Lagos State Police Command Friday declined any further comments on the alleged illegal detention of late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola’s two sons, Kassim and Aliyu, who were arrested and detained over the September 2 robbery incident which took place at the residence of late politician in Ikeja.

    They were said to have been detained, following a complaint that was lodged by their step-mother, Adebisi Abiola, after the robbery incident.

    But, reacting to the suit instituted by Abiola’s sons, Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Police Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said: “On MKO Abiola’s Sons’ Arrest: We will be silent for now because the matter is subject of litigation. We will react as when due.”

    In another development, Chairman of the Police Trust Fund (PTF) and former Inspector General of Police, Sulaiman Abba, has inspected some of the dilapidated Police Barracks and facilities in Lagos State.

    The former police boss, who was accompanied by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu; Commissioner of Police in charge of Works, Department of Logistics and Supply, Aliyu Abubakar; Area Commander Area A Lion Building, Bode Ojajuni, among others, went round to see the bad condition of Obalende and Ije Barracks at Obalende area and Mopol 20 Police Barracks and the Police College at Ikeja.

    While inspecting the deplorable condition of the barracks, Abba assured the police personnel and their families of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to improve their welfare and living conditions with a view to getting the best service delivery from them.

    He reaffirmed the Buhari administration’s determination to kick-start the Trust Fund to improve the welfare of the personnel of the Nigeria Police, especially in the areas of trainings, welfare, logistics and a host of others, for more reinforced internal security of the country.
