    731 NYSC Members in Batch B Test Positive for COVID-19

    Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Coronavirus (COVID-19), Boss Mustapha, has revealed that no fewer than 731 of the 34,418 Batch B members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2020, tested positive for the deadly disease.

    Speaking on Tuesday at a briefing by the task force, Mustapha said corps members across the country took COVID-19 tests.

    According to him, “In continuation of the NYSC engagement, PTF has conducted the testing of Batch B Corp members using RDTs. Out of the 35,419 in the Batch B, 731 tested positive compared to 108 recorded during the Batch A.

    “It is on record that cases were recorded from Corp members from every state of the federation.”

    Besides, PTF chairman expressed concern about the 1,204 cases recorded on Monday, the highest number of daily infections in the country.

    While attributing the surge to the Christmas festivities, Mustapha said: “Yesterday (January 4), we recorded 1,204 infections. This was the highest daily number ever recorded since we commenced the national response.

    “From our analysis, we are beginning to see the effect of activities carried out during the Christmas festivities. We can only hope that numbers will not escalate beyond control. We, however, still appeal to all citizens to take full responsibility through compliance and vigilance.”

    All Civil Servants to Resume Oct 19 – FG

    The Federal Government has directed civil servants who have not been going to work since March when the lockdown declared to curtail the spread of COVID-19 started to return to work from Monday 19th, 2020.

    The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha; and the National Coordinator, Sanni Aliyu, disclosed this at the press briefing of the task force on Thursday.

    Only civil servants of Salary Grade Level 12 and above as well as those on essential duties have been going to work.

    But the PTF has directed that civil servants below SGL 12 can now resume work.
    It however directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure that they alternate the days the civil servants will be at work in order to ensure social distancing.

    Nigeria Bans Emirates Airlines

    The Federal Government has banned Emirates Airlines from operating flights into Nigeria, in line with its aviation policy of reciprocity over the rejection of Nigerians by some countries due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) regulations and protocols.

    This was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on his Twitter handle, explaining that the ban takes effect from September 21.

    According to him, “The PTF (Presidential Task Force on COVID-19) sub-committee met today (Friday) with EU (European Union) Ambassadors to discuss Lufthansa, Air France/KLM ban.

    “The meeting progressed well.

    “Emirates Airline’s situation was reviewed and they are consequently included in the list of those not approved, with effect from Monday, 21st September, 2020.”

    It would be recalled that the Federal Government has indicated its determination to reciprocate aviation policy against countries that block Nigerians and Nigerian carriers from entering their airspace.
