The Supreme Court has struck out Osun State’s suit seeking release of withheld local government allocations, ruling that the state attorney-general lacked standing to sue on behalf of the councils. However, reports indicate the Court also faulted the Federal Government’s withholding of the funds and reaffirmed the principle that allocations should be released directly to duly elected local governments. The judgment has sparked political reactions, including public commendation from Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, who described the ruling as reinforcing due process and local government autonomy. Akpabio dares Natasha over sexual harassment suit
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has challenged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to present evidence of her sexual harassment allegations in court. Punch reports that Akpabio’s media office argues the defamation suit was filed about three months earlier, countering claims that it was newly initiated. The statement characterises the allegations as unproven and accuses the Kogi Central senator of misleading the public by framing the legal action as a sudden response. The dispute adds another layer to the intensifying political and reputational battle playing out between both figures. Source: Punch, December 7, 2025.

Bayelsa Governor rejoices after Supreme Court verdict
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, Tuesday celebrated and commended Justices of the Supreme Court for their uprightness.
He described the verdict of the Supreme Court as the triumph of democracy.
Diri, who spoke to journalists in Abuja shortly after the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by Chief Ndutimi Alaibe against his victory at the September 3, 2019 governorship primary election of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP), explained that the incident has deepened democratic ethos in Nigeria.
The governor noted that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man in the country.
“Clearly and transparently, the Justices have displayed uprightness. They have also displayed that the Supreme Court is indeed the last court in Nigeria.
“I want to appreciate them and I believe and pray that God will continue to guide them, use them to do justice to all manner of people,” he said.
Diri also appreciated Bayelsans home and abroad as well as lovers of the state government for their prayers and promised not to fail them.
