Reporting by Vanguard indicates that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “reclaimed” by loyalists following a contentious national convention in Abuja. Wike blasted defectors and opposition figures, asserting that the party has regained its institutional footing after years of internal leadership disputes.
Simultaneously, a rival faction led by Kabiru Turaki has approached the Supreme Court to nullify the proceedings. The legal challenge argues that the convention should not have proceeded while appeals regarding the party’s leadership were still pending at the apex court.
ThisDay reported that “PDP urged the Supreme Court to stop Wike group’s convention,” while Daily Post quoted party chairmen calling claims of an injunction “false and misleading.”
Echotitbits take: The PDP is effectively a house divided against itself. Wike’s “victory” at the convention will remain hollow until the Supreme Court delivers a definitive ruling on which faction truly holds the keys to the party headquarters.
