In an urgent message posted on Instagram by @pauloo21, veteran show promoter Paul Okoye (PaulO) expressed severe alarm over inflated booking fees charged by top Afrobeats artists.

PaulO asserted that exorbitant performance fees are driving local promoters out of business and reducing major live concert opportunities. He noted that only a fraction of touring artists currently remain financially viable for independent organizers.

He warned that corporate sponsors are scaling back summer festival budgets due to unsustainable financial demands. The executive called for immediate dialogue between talent managers and event promoters.

Confirming the industry discourse, ValidUpdates reported on the market reaction, quoting PaulO’s social media post: “AfroBeat Is Dead  Or Coma… at the same time, artist fees have gone so high that many promoters no fit book them again”. Supporting the commentary, Leadership Newspaper cited the promoter’s economic assessment, highlighting his quote that “corporate brands are beginning to struggle with these prices… the current system is becoming harder to sustain”.

PaulO’s critique highlights a critical pricing bubble within Afrobeats as global demand clashes with local event economics. If booking fees are not recalibrated, live performances in West Africa may drop significantly, forcing artists to rely almost entirely on international tours.
