Reporting by Punch indicates motorists on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway were stuck for more than 14 hours on Tuesday after a multi-vehicle crash at Kara Bridge landed on top of expansion-joint repairs. LASEMA said its squad was called at 6:05 a.m. and listed a 40-foot container truck and six other vehicles among those involved.
Tribune reported that a container truck with alleged brake failure rammed demarcation blocks and other vehicles at the bridge exit, injuring four people who were taken to hospital. Congestion later reached Ojota, Alapere and parts of the Third Mainland corridor.
The Guardian named the same vehicle mix and said the truck developed a mechanical fault before hitting six others. Channels Television added that the two-week joint-replacement works, directed by Works Minister David Umahi, run until September 22.
