According to Premium Times, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has officially dismissed a lawsuit that aimed to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from participating in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The litigation, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, sought a strict interpretation of Sections 1(1), (2) & (3) and 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution. The plaintiffs had argued that because Jonathan completed the unexpired term of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and subsequently served a full four-year term after the 2011 polls, allowing him back into office would violate statutory term limits. They maintained that a return would lead to an unprecedented third oath of office, exceeding the cumulative maximum of eight years.
