According to Punch Newspapers reporting, the Borno State Government, in partnership with the Malaria Consortium, has kicked off a massive distribution of five million insecticide-treated nets and critical medications. The initiative aims to suppress the seasonal surge of malaria, which remains a leading killer of children and pregnant women in the region.
To protect the massive supply chain from corruption, State Commissioner for Health, Baba Malam Gana, announced that tracking devices have been installed in storage facilities and transport vehicles. This step ensures that every net and drug consignment reaches the designated rural health facilities and local governments without diversion.
Validating the regional rollout, Leadership reported that “Borno is one of four selected states to receive this massive consignment to curb seasonal malaria transmission”. The Sun also highlighted the healthcare milestone, noting that “the introduction of GPS tracking on medical supplies marks a significant shift toward digital accountability in humanitarian aid.”
