Leadership reports that the Federal Government has approved a new arrangement under which JAMB will process Higher National Diploma admissions across institutions offering HND programmes.
NBTE says the centralised system is intended to reduce illegal or compromised admissions and prevent graduates from later encountering NYSC mobilisation problems linked to irregular admission records.
The change materially expands JAMB’s role compared with the previous system, making implementation rules and institutional compliance important to watch.
Nigeria Education News provided independent corroboration, reporting that “does not handle admissions into HND programmes”. A second sufficiently independent credible report was not located during this review, so further confirmation remains limited.
Echotitbits take: Centralisation could improve admission traceability, but JAMB, NBTE and polytechnics will need a clear transition process so legitimate students are not stranded.
