As reported by Leadership Newspaper, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has instituted a ₦3 billion defamation lawsuit against prominent blogger Linda Ikeji. The suit, filed on August 24, 2026, at the FCT High Court, stems from published reports alleged to be false and damaging to his reputation.
Confirming the legal action, Premium Times reported on X that “FCT Minister files legal proceedings seeking billions in damages over published statements”. Legal blog Lawyard added on Facebook, “The suit FCT/CV/264/26 marks one of the high-profile media defamation battles of the year”.
This legal clash between a top political figure and one of Nigeria’s pioneer digital publishers raises important questions around blogging ethics, liability, and press freedom. The trial will likely draw heavy public and legal scrutiny as it progresses.
