ThisDay reports that the Nigerian Communications Commission has launched a zero-rated data initiative intended to give eligible learners free access to approved educational platforms.
The programme is designed to lower connectivity barriers, support digital skills and reduce inequality in access to online learning resources.
Implementation will matter most: platform approval, user eligibility, network performance and whether the allowance is large enough for meaningful study will determine the programme’s real educational value.
Nairametrics independently corroborated the development, reporting that “equal access to knowledge”. TheCable also confirmed the core development, noting that “up to 100 megabytes of data daily”.
Echotitbits take: Zero-rating can widen access quickly, but the programme should be measured by actual learning usage, rural reach, platform quality and student outcomes.
