Figures cited by The Nation show that Nigeria has recorded another key diplomatic victory on the global stage following the successful reelection of Esther Eghobamien-Mshelia to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (UN-CEDAW). Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations congratulated the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the women of Nigeria on securing the prestigious international seat.
The successful election keeps Nigeria in a strong position on the committee for an additional two-year term. Diplomats noted that the victory reflects the international community’s growing confidence in Nigeria’s current governance reforms and its vocal advocacy for women’s development, child welfare, and youth empowerment frameworks. This latest win marks the third consecutive electoral victory Nigeria has secured at the UN since its current diplomatic leadership took office.
