In an update published by **Premium Times**, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has confirmed that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline is on track to deliver natural gas to the Federal Capital Territory by July 2026. This milestone is expected to revolutionize energy access in the North-Central region, providing a cheaper and cleaner alternative to liquid fuels for industrial and domestic use.

The AKK pipeline project, which has faced several delays due to funding and security challenges, is a critical component of Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” initiative. NUPRC officials stated that the engineering phase is nearing 95% completion, with final pressure tests scheduled for the coming weeks. Once operational, the pipeline will feed into new power plants and gas-based industries, potentially creating thousands of jobs.

The project’s progress was corroborated by **Channels TV**, which reported that “the July deadline remains realistic as technical hurdles have been cleared,” and by **The Guardian**, which noted that “this infrastructure will bridge the energy gap between the South and the North.”

**Echotitbits take:** The completion of the AKK pipeline to Abuja is a huge win for regional industrialization. If the government can secure the length of the pipeline against vandalism, it could significantly lower the cost of electricity and manufacturing in the hinterland, providing a much-needed boost to the GDP.
