In reporting from THISDAY, Vice-President Kashim Shettima said the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms are contributing to the international growth of Nigerian technology companies.
He cited Flutterwave, Moniepoint and Andela as examples of indigenous firms capable of extending Nigerian innovation into international markets.
The comments came during a meeting with a Flutterwave delegation led by co-founder and chief executive Olugbenga Agboola.
Arise News quoted Shettima saying, “We have to support and promote our own,” while Peoples Gazette reported his description of Flutterwave’s strength as its “ability to solve an African problem using indigenous solution.”
Echotitbits take: Nigeria’s fintech successes predate many current reforms, so the more useful policy test is whether the present environment makes it easier for the next generation of firms to emerge. Regulation, FX access, infrastructure, taxation and capital formation will determine that.
