    Top State Official Accused of Sexually Harassing 16year Old Gets Suspension

    Commissioner for Environment in Ogun State Honourable Abiodun Abudu-Balogun has been suspended from the State’s Executive Council pending the conclusion of an independent investigation into alleged sexual harassment of a 16-year old Barakat Mayowa Melojuekun.

    The Ogun State Government disclosed the suspension of the embattled commissioner in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.

    The state’s SSG said the disciplinary action is to enable the accused commissioner cooperate fully with the investigation being carried out by the Police.

    “Whilst taking cognizance of the principle of a suspect being presumed innocent until proven guilty and the public statement issued by Hon. Abudu-Balogun denying the allegation, as a government with zero tolerance for gender-based violence and indeed any criminality, the suspension is a further demonstration of the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun Administration to fairness, equity, justice and the rule of law, no matter who is involved”, the statement continued.

    “The government assures the public that it will do everything to ensure that justice is served in this case. In the meantime, the suspended Commissioner has been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, the statement concluded”, Talabi stated.

    Meanwhile, Suspended Commissioner Abudu-Balogun, in statement made available to Echotitbits, on Saturday denied the allegation of sexual harassments leveled against him by 16-year old Barakat Mayowa Melojuekun.

    “My attention has been drawn to a purported video circulating on social media of a girl alleging that I attempted to sexually harrass her. Let it be noted that in my entire life and political career, I have assisted many youth to secure jobs, some are working with me in my different businesses.

    “On this said day, the girl was brought to my house by one of my loyalists who is her Uncle, to assist her get a job as a Computer Operator at the ICT Centre I facilitated while I was serving as a member of House of Representatives years back which has been moribund but I am about to rehabilitate in order to empower more youths in our local government.

    “I met her at my sitting room for few minutes where many of my loyalists are, people that came to visit me for the New Year. I chatted with the lady for few minutes and as part of my usual gesture, I gave her some amount of money for her transportation. A day after, I was informed by some people that I have been alleged to have attempted to sexually harrass the girl and I should invite the family for a meeting so as to settle the matter amicably. It was after my refusal to yield to their threats that they went ahead to make a teleguided video leading the lady on what to say to implicate me. This is purely a political blackmail by my adversaries.

    Balogun, who pleaded with his political supporters to remain calm and not engage on the said matter confirmed that the case is already being handled by the Police and his legal team. The embattled commissioner reiterated his innocence saying, “Let me state emphatically that I never attempted to sexually harrass anyone.

    Ogun: We’ll Settle Outstanding Entitlements, Abiodun Promises, Tasks New Appointees on Prudent Management

    • Swears in six new permanent secretaries, Principals-General and Headteachers-General
    • Appoints new Board Chair and Members

    Ogun State government has assured that all outstanding entitlements of its workers would be paid, just as it commended the State trade union leaders for their civil and mature ways of handling issues.

    The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made the pledge at the swearing-in of new Permanent Secretaries, Principals General and Headteachers General, at the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

    The newly sworn in permanent secretaries and their assigned offices are Engr (Dr) Lateef Yusuf, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure; Mr Kehinde Onasanya, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs; Mrs Olusola Osasona, Ministry of Transport; Mr Johnson Odeyemi, Teaching Service Commission; Mr Moses Adebayo, Bureau of Protocols and Ceremonial Services and Mr Dahunsi Ogunleye, Bureau of Service Matters.

    Also sworn-in are four Principals-General: Mrs Sekina Ogunwolu (Egba zone); Mrs Rashidat Bolujoko (Ijebu zone); Mr Ganiyu Ramoni (Remo zone) and Mrs Afolake Lokulo-Sodipe (Yewa zone), while Mr Semiu Akinbo (Egba zone) Mrs Sarat Adedeji (Ijebu zone); Mr Emmanuel Kalejaiye (Remo zone) and Mr Julius Babatunde (Yewa zone) are the new Headteachers General.

    Gov. Abiodun said he regards workers in the State as co-builders, who have contributed their quota to the advancement of the State, they deserve to be well taken care off.

    “Our administration will not, and I repeat, deny you of the rewards of your meritorious and hard-work. You have all worked and contributed your quotas to the continued development of our dear State. Personally, as a child of retired Public Servants, I appreciate the import of these entitlements to the welfare, wellness and wellbeing of workers, either, serving and retired.

    “I am particularly using this occasion to state the commitment of our administration to off-set all outstanding dues and other entitlements as financial status of the State improves”, the Governor promised.

    He noted that his administration that does not renege on its promises, as it was deploying resources towards ensuring a conducive environment for the workers for efficient and effective service delivery, maintaining that workers’ pensions and other entitlements were some of the issues that attracted its attention and immediate intervention.

    According to the Goverrnor, “we cleared the backlogs of promotions of over 10,000 personnel in the education industry. We also sent some on overseas training as we are committed to human capital development. I must state that the process to clear the backlogs of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 promotion exercises are at advance level.

    While congratulating the new Permanent Secretaries, Governor Abiodun said their appointments are testaments to their past records and a challenge to do more in the service of the State and humanity, adding that the process that led to their appointments was based on seniority, merit, professionalism, equity, inclusiveness and the overall interest of the Public Service and the State in general.

    He also reminded them that their appointment was a call to greater service and as the standard bearers of the State Public Service, they are to interface between the government and the public by bringing more initiatives to improve the implementation of government policies and programmes, as the emergence of COVID-19 has continued to increase the expectations of the government.

    The Governor added that his government was restoring the positions of the Principals-General and Headteachers- General to motivate teachers to attain higher position of authority, urging the new appointees to ensure that their appointments translate into immediate positive results of improving education in the State.

    The State helmsman assured that government would continue to reward deserving officers who are industrious and exhibiting commitment to service delivery

    “We will continue to engage the Labour Unions and other stakeholders. And, I commend all the union leaders and other stakeholders for their civil and mature approaches of engagement as they continue to share in our commitment towards improving on workers’ welfare in Ogun State.

    Similarly, Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun Tuesday, appointed new Chairmen and members of Boards of Government Agencies in the state and charged them to make probity and prudent management of resources their watchword, urging them to see their appointment as a call to service.

    The Governor who made the charge at the swearing-in ceremony for the new members of Boards and Parastatals, held at the June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, admonished the appointees not to constitute themselves into cost centers that would further eat into the already lean finances of the state government.

    “As members of Boards of Governments Agencies, you are all enjoined to make probity your watchword, and be prudent in the management of both human and material resources under your care, you must consider all members of staff as the important catalysts to achieving the greatness of your Boards.

    “You should all collectively and individually work hard to add value to your Boards rather than constitute yourselves into cost centres that would further eat into the already lean finances of Government,” he said.

    Abiodun expressed the desire of his administration to continue giving responsibilities to visionary leaders, opined that having visionary and purposeful leaders at the helms of affairs in agencies and corporations would further translate and facilitate the present administration’s developmental agenda across all sectors of the States economy.

    The State helmsman noted that the selection process for the chairmen and their members was a herculean task, as the State was blessed with highly qualified men and women who are equally qualified for the job.

    Prince Abiodun further disclosed that his administration would continue to adopt the inclusive approach for positive contributions towards the development of the State, assuring that the policies and programmes of government would not be determined by the fancy of one individual or group.

    “Our policies and programmes will not be determined by the fancy of one individual or group. Ogun State belongs to all of us, therefore, all the people will have a say in matters relating to the continued development of our dear State,” he assured.

    The Governor also charged the new board chairmen and their members to stay clear of needless competitions that could complicate their operations, urging them to imbibe the guiding philosophy of the “building the future together agenda” of the present administration.

    Responding on behalf of the newly sworn in chairmen and members of boards and parastatals, the Chairman, Ogun State Housing Corporation, who is also the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Yemi Sanusi, while promising that they would put in their best, called for support of the government to actualise the mission and vision of the government.

    The boards that were inaugurated are those of Ogun State Housing Corporation, Ogun State Health Management Board, Ogun State Agro Services Corporation and Ogun State Bulk Purchasing now Gateway Trading Company.

    The rest are those of Ogun State Agric Multi-Purpose Credit Agency (OSAMCA), Ogun State Market Development Board, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Food Crops Marketing Board and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA).

    Relying on the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, an Ogun State indigene, Mr. Adetilewa Adetomiwa, has given the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration a seven-day ultimatum to disclose detailed information about the concession of Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway or legal proceedings would be initiated against the state government.

    Adetomiwa, in two separate letters signed by his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong Esq., sought to know the detailed information about the concession and subsequently applied for a copy of the 2020 Ogun State Budget to know budgetary provisions, if any, for the road.

    Abiodun Tasks Ogun Labour Unions to Return to Negotiation Table

    It would be recalled that Abiodun had earlier this year flagged off the construction of the 14-kilometre Ijebu-Ode-Ikoto to Epe in Lagos State.

    The road was awarded to Craneburg Construction by the Abiodun administration under a public-private partnership arrangement – Build, Operate and Transfer programme, with an inclusion of toll plazas indicating that tolls would be collected for the maintenance of the road.

    “Pursuant to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, we hereby apply for a detailed information and records on the concession of Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway.

    “TAKE NOTICE that if you fail, refuse or neglect to furnish us with the said
    information and records as requested by Our Client within Seven (7) days of
    receipt of this application, we have the instructions of Our Client to
    commence legal proceedings against you to compel you to comply,” read Adetomiwa’s letter to Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure was dated September 17, 2020.

    His second letter to Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning dated September 17, 2020 read thus: “We are Solicitors to Mr. Adetilewa Adetomiwa, an indigene of Ogun State whose address is GRA Ijebu-Ode (hereinafter referred to as “Our Client”) on whose behalf and instructions we write to you.

    “Our Client is a good governance advocate and a human rights activist.

    “Pursuant to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, we hereby apply for a copy of the 2020 Ogun State Budget.

    “TAKE NOTICE that if you fail, refuse or neglect to furnish us with the said 2020 Budget as requested by Our Client within Seven (7) days of receipt of this application, we have the instructions of Our Client to commence legal
    proceedings against you to compel you to comply.”

    The construction of Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway, which had since commenced, would be a dual-carriage road with 10 lanes – four lanes on each side with one pull-out section, while the toll plaza consists of 14 lanes for easy payment of tolls.

    Abiodun, while speaking at the flag-off, had said the construction, which was meant to connect Epe-Ajah-Victoria Island in Lagos State, would provide a perfect alternative to ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    Meanwhile, in a chat with Echotitbits, Mr. Adetilewa Adetomiwa reiterated that he was prompted to take this action based on some unconfirmed rumors of contract inflation trailing the concession which says the cost of the road is 3.6B per KM.

    Ogun Government mobilises contractors back to abandoned road projects

    Construction work on the Lafenwa-Rounda Road in Abeokuta and other abandoned road projects across Ogun State has resumed.

    In a statement made available to Echotitbits by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, the Ogun state Government said contractors have now been mobilized to resume work on the Lafenwa-Rounda Road, which was abandoned by the immediate past administration.

    “The last administration began the project but later left it uncompleted, bringing untold hardship to road users, pedestrians and residents within the axis, with regular traffic congestion, car wear and tear, and business disruption.

    “As a road connecting Abeokuta, the State Capital with some major towns in Yewa Land and neighbouring Oyo State, the Lafenwa-Rounda Road has been declared by the Government as a viable road which it is keen on completing on the shortest possible time”, the statement read.

    The state government also noted that work has equally resumed on several other roads that include Kuto Bridge and the surrounding road, Elega, Panseke-Adigbe, Adatan-Car Wash, Owode-Ilaro, among others that were started by the immediate past administration but left uncompleted.
