Leadership says Nigerian airline operators are defending domestic ticket prices despite some return fares reaching N524,000, arguing that local fares remain comparatively low relative to operating costs.
The report cites a wide range of fares across Air Peace, Aero Contractors and United Nigeria while operators point to the weaker naira, inflation, taxes, interest rates and Jet-A1 near N3,000 per litre.
For passengers, the central issue is affordability; for airlines, it is whether ticket revenue can cover dollar-linked maintenance, aircraft, insurance and fuel costs without shrinking demand.
