According to Leadership, the Nigerian Economic Summit Group is calling for more investment in agro-processing, storage and cold-chain infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses estimated at 30 to 40 per cent for several commodities.
NESG says weak storage, processing and transport links destroy value after harvest, depress farmer income and contribute to food-price pressure.
The group wants the October Nigerian Economic Summit to focus on integrated value chains, finance, logistics, technology and infrastructure that can move agriculture toward higher-value production.
Independent confirmation was limited during this review. No sufficiently independent second report was located, so no corroborating quotation has been invented.
Echotitbits take: Reducing losses can raise food supply without expanding farmland, making storage, power, rural roads and processing finance among the highest-leverage interventions.
