Figures cited by Daily Post show that the Association of Resident Doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH-ARD) has handed down a seven-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government. The medical union is demanding the immediate implementation of the specialist allowance for Grade Level 14 resident doctors, alongside the payment of accrued salary and promotion arrears.
The union expressed frustration that despite previous agreements and executive approvals for the Professional Allowance Table (PAT) following a warning strike in June, the August salary structure failed to incorporate the agreed-upon specialist allowances for Senior Registrars. The doctors noted that federal health institutions and several states have already begun disbursing these entitlements to their medical personnel.
Unless the state government resolves the outstanding financial obligations before the ultimatum expires, the resident doctors warned they would be forced to withdraw their services. Patient advocacy groups and the Nigerian Medical Association have urged swift intervention to avert a shutdown of tertiary healthcare delivery in Lagos.
