    Fire burns one beyond recognition, others injured in road accident 

     One person has died in a fire accident involving a commercial bus on the Long bridge inward Arepo, Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

    The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) announced in a statement Monday evening, and which was sighted by Echotitbits.

    “The incident which involved a commercial vehicle with registration number LSD-715XV gutted by fire along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claimed the life of a yet-to-be identified passenger that was burnt beyond recognition, injuring several others who were rescued by Police and FRSC Officers, while the LASEMA Response Team recovered the burnt vehicle off the road to ensure smooth vehicular activities in the axis.”

    LASEMA, according to the statement, said its action was on the heels of the continued collaboration between Lagos and its neighbouring states in tackling emergencies to ensure safety of lives and properties.

    The agency added that the cooperation between states led to LASEMA’s activation of its response team, Tiger Squad to the incident scene at the Long bridge inward Arepo, when the agency received a distress call on a burning vehicle.

    The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has successfully extinguished fire which gutted an oil tanker at the Secretariat Bus Stop, Ikeja in the early hours of today.

    In a statement by the agency’s Director General, Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyitolu, on Saturday LASEMA’s Response Team responded to the distress call at 1:17am and recovered the tanker, which was fully loaded to capacity of 46,000 litres of fuel intact.

    Osanyitolu noted that the incident recorded no loss of lives, nor injuries, while the over two-hour operation lasted in the battle against the burning truckhead in order to curtail the fire and stop a highly probable explosion.

    “While the LASEMA Response Team successfully recovered the gutted Petrol Oil Tanker without any human loss, the feat was achieved without further loss of properties nor damages, with the full content of 46, 000 litres of fuel salvaged intact, at the Secretariat Bus Stop through deployment of its heavy duty equipment, the Super Metro and support of men of the Lagos State Fire Services and other stakeholders”, he said.

    The LASEMA DG added that the remains of the gutted oil tanker was safely recovered off the road to avoid any secondary incident, while also restoring the road to normalcy for vehicular activities.

    The Lagos State Fire Service has explained how it successfully averted an escalation of a fire explosion involving three tankers and one trailer on Kara Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

    Lagos State Fire Service and other first responders like Ogun State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency and Federal Road Safety Corps had swiftly moved to the scene of the incident in order to avert multiple fire explosions.

    Speaking on the incident, the Acting Head, Lagos State Fire Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the quick and timely response by the agency ensured that the fire disaster was effectively contained before it escalated.

    “Lagos State firemen responded to a fire call at about 0046hrs on Sunday, 21st June, 2020 at Kara Bridge and quickly reached the location where some vehicles were already engulfed by fire.

    “Nevertheless, our firefighters were able to contain the situation from escalating before it was finally extinguished a few hours later.”

    Adeseye added that one of the tankers involved was conveying gas, while two others were filled with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).

    She explained that the firemen were on standby until the gas leakage from one of the vehicles in the accident stopped in order to avert further havoc and chaos.

    “The fire incident was a delicate operation that required the use of chemical foam compound to avoid explosion,” she noted.

    One person has been confirmed dead in the fire resulting from an explosion involving a petrol tanker, a gas truck and a cement transport truck at the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    Many residents within the area were startled when the explosion took place at about 1 A.M on Sunday morning.

    At the time of filing this report, it was yet to be made clear what stirred the explosion.

    Men of the Federal and Lagos State Fire Service arrived the scene swiftly to douse the flames, a task which has continued for hours, thereby causing heavy traffic jam on both sides of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

    Fire guts Office of the Accountant General of the Federation – watch video!

    The Treasury House building which has the Accountant General of the Federation’s (AGF) office was on fire this morning, Wednesday 8, 2020.

    The source of the fire remains unknown for now but workers in the complex as at the time the fire broke out said it started at about 10:25am from the fourth floor where the office of the Assistant Director, Capital is located.

    In a video circulating online, an unidentified man was heard lamenting that “the Treasury House is on fire and the Nigerian government can’t do anything about it.

    The man added that “oh my goodness our national resources is going”.

    By the time men of the Federal Fire Service arrived, the fire had spread to the building which houses the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

    In a tweet posted at exactly 11:56am, the Federal Fire Service stated that “the fire at the Accountant General’s Office has been extinguished.
