According to the Independent National Electoral Commision’s (INEC) Returning Officer, the declared results shows that the Governor Akeredolu polled 413 votes to defeat Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede, his closest challenger, who polled 12 votes only.

At Akeredolu’s unit, Zenith Labour Party candidate and Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi scored no single votes, while eleven ballots were voided.

Compared to other candidates’ home run, Governor Akeredolu’s margin of victory at home turf was the biggest, reports said.

At the Akure polling unit of PDP’s candidate, Eyitayo managed to beat Akeredolu with 220 to 62 votes, a mere margin.

The result was for polling unit 009, Ward 1, Gbogi/Isokan area in Akure South Local Government Area, PM News reported.

Similarly, running mate to PDP’s Eyitayo Jegede, Gboluga Ikengboju, won his polling unit 010, Ward 09 in IluTitun, Okitipupa local government of the state, polling 121 votes to defeat APC which had 24 votes.

#OndoDecides2020: PDP Candidate, Jegede Expressed disappointment Over Conduct of Security Officers at Poll

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede says he is disappointed with the conduct of some security officials deployed to monitor the Ondo governorship election.

The Governorship candidate expressed this when he addressed journalists after casting his vote in Akure on Saturday.

Eyitayo’s reservation is coming after along with his wife experienced delay in voting for about 3hrs due to difficulties in authenticating their voter’s card by polling officers at his Ward 1, Sacred Heart polling unit 9 in Gbokan/Isikan Akure South LGA.

He later voted and commended the voters for properly conducting themselves at the poll.

However, the governor accused some security officers at the polling unit of allowing some people to check people’s voting preferences.

“I’m a little bit disappointed at some of the officers here. I’m disappointed because you have an officer standing directly behind the person casting his vote and you have them giving allowances to the person who should not be there giving signals to some people in their presence until I protested.

“I have had good reports about INEC and I saw good reports in Edo and I have had a lot of reports and good things happening until it came to my turn to vote and the machine suddenly malfunctioned.

“I had to be delayed and I insisted I will stay until the card functions. My wife’s card did not pass through too and we tested others who were behind me, their cards did not pass too, so all of us waited there

“After the protest, exactly ten minutes thereafter the card started functioning again. I have voted and I’m hopeful that everything will work out well,” Eyitayo said.

  • Ondo Poll: Saraki Demands Free, Fair Process, Canvasses support for Jegede

Ondo Poll: Saraki Demands Free, Fair Process, Canvasses support for Jegede

Immediate past Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security officials and the electorate that will participate in next Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State to ensure that the peaceful, credible, free and fair process witnessed during a similar election in nearby Edo State is not only sustained but improved upon.

Saraki, in a statement issued from his Media Office in Abuja today, advised the INEC and security officials to quickly do a comprehensive review of how it achieved the commendable process in Edo State and ensure that nothing less than that is repeated in Ondo State.

“These isolated polls as we have in Ondo State next Saturday and the last one in Edo State give us the opportunity to perfect the electoral system. We must continue to improve on the system with every one of these out-of-season elections so that the next general elections will perhaps be the best the country has witnessed in the last 60 years.

“It is a good omen that the election is coming a few days after the 60th Independence Anniversary. INEC, security officials and all individuals involved in the October 10 election in Ondo State must present a credible poll to all Nigerians as part of the Independence Anniversary gifts.

“From the Edo experience, we have seen that when the process is free and fair, the post-election contestation and the tension they usually generate are easily eliminated. The sides that do not win will be graceful in defeat while the one that is victorious will be magnanimous in victory. This is how we can build our democracy and make the system work for the benefit of the people.

“So, INEC should replicate the transparent process we saw in Edo State in which results were transmitted electronically from polling stations to the collation centers and it was possible for all interested parties to monitor the returns as they come in”, Saraki stated.

He further urged the registered voters in Ondo State to vote for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) who he described as experienced, mature, committed and brilliant professional that has the ability to think out of the box in finding solutions to the socio-economic problems confronting the state.

“I appeal to the people of Ondo State to vote for Jegede because he will faithfully fulfill all the promises he made to the people and implement the lofty programmes of the PDP. Let me also state that it is not too late for candidates of the other parties who share the same programmes, policies and plans with the PDP to drop out of the race and team up with our candidate for maximum victory and the resultant formation of an all inclusive government”, he stated.

Buhari Assures of Peaceful Ondo Election, Sanwo-Olu Charges Supporters to Shun Violence

As all actors in the October 10, 2020 Ondo Governorship election appear to be set, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians and the international community of a credible, peaceful and transparent poll.

The President gave the assurance in a video message to party supporters at the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign held in Akure on Wednesday.

According to the President, all necessary measures had been put in place to provide adequate security to forestall any breach of the peace by unscrupulous elements.

Buhari expressed confidence that the party supporters would vote according to the laws guiding the electoral process, urging the electorate to turn out en masse to vote without fear of molestation.

“I have no doubt that our candidate is a good brand for the APC to market. I am particularly delighted by his ingenious approach to governance. His performance within the limits of available resources is endearing, just as he has taken the state to an enviable level and on the path of prosperity. Having had the privilege of commissioning some of his projects, which I consider enduring legacies, I join you here today to declare that Governor Akeredolu deserves to be re-elected to consolidate the good work he commenced in his first term.

“I am not just proud of his achievements, I am confident he will enjoy the mandate of the good people of Ondo State for the second term.”

Buhari said further that he was encouraged by the large turnout at the grand finale, noting that he had keenly followed events in the state as regards the governorship election.

“I salute the courage and the demonstrated capacity of the National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee under the leadership of Mai Mala Buni. I thank you for conducting a hitch-free party primary in Ondo State. I congratulate the APC family in Ondo State on this uncommon display of brotherliness, candour and doggedness.

“May I therefore salute all other governorship aspirants, who accepted the outcome of the primary election and decided to work for the success of the candidate and incumbent, Governor Akeredolu. Their patriotic and selfless conduct shall serve as an enduring reference point in party politics.”

The grand finale of the APC campaign rally was attended by Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Tayo Alasoadura; Deputy Senate Leader, Ajayi Boroffice; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Sylva Timipre and former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, among others.

Also in attendance were Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, who implored the people to cast their votes for APC to sustain the achievements recorded by the Akeredolu-led administration in the state.

Similarly, the Chairman of APC National Campaign Committee for Ondo State Election and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, counseled party supporters on the need to vote and defend their votes, adding that they should shun violence.

Edo Guber Poll: I am not downcast, Ize-Iyamu Says, Preaches Gratitude

Contrary to some opinions about his electoral loss, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu says he was not downcast for not winning.

The second time governorship candidate made this known at a special thanksgiving service held in his Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG), Soul Winners Assembly, in Benin City on Sunday.

Ize-Iyamu was at the church to celebrate the successful conclusion of the September 19 governorship election and dismissed notions that he was downcast for not being declared the winner.

He stated that he chose to express gratitude to God for the exercise, as well as immensely thank supporters and those who assisted him, adding that God expects Man to offer him praises in all situations.

A pastor and politician, Ize-Iyamu while delivering the Sunday sermon titled “Utilising Opportunities”, said every opportunity must be seized to achieve an aim.

Speaking on the electoral process and its outcome, Pastor Ize-Iyamu averred that defeat is an imagined state, and that since the exercise he had not felt defeated.

He however admonished his supporters not to allow the seed of defeat germinate amongst them, as God has decreed that all the “Earth is theirs”.

Also speaking at the church service, the Edo State Regional Pastor of the RCCG, Professor Dele Balogun, stated that God may allow the loss of a battle and later win the war to test one’s faith, urging Supporters of Pastor Ize-Iyamu not to lose focus.

  • Ekiti APC Crisis: Fayemi Remains Party Leader, National Secretariat Tells Ojudu Faction Over Suspension

Ekiti APC Crisis: Fayemi Remains Party Leader, National Secretariat Tells Ojudu Faction Over Suspension

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State Friday took another turn as the Tony Adeniyi-led faction suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi and the Paul Omotosho-led Executive Council over anti-party activities.

The latest suspension order came barely 24 hours after Omotosho’s faction loyal to the governor suspended the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Ojudu Babafemi, and 10 others.

But respite seemed to have come the way of Fayemi, Babafemi and others as APC National Secretariat in a statement on Friday by the Deputy National Secretary, Yekini Nabena, described the suspensions as a “nullity.”

Nabena said the attention of APC National Secretariat has been drawn to a purported and widely-reported “suspension” of Fayemi as well as an earlier reported “indefinite suspension” of BBabafemi and other party members in the state.

Suspending Fayemi and Omotosho on Friday, the Adeniyi-led faction alleged that the governor’s camp has refused to hold Ward Congress in Ekiti State since inception of the party, describing the governor’s faction as illegal.

Adeniyi represented Ekiti South Senatorial district between 2011 and 2015. He explained that he was made Acting Chairman of Ekiti APC owing to the “absence of direction or directive from the National Body” and was adjudged as “the only one thus capable to call the SEC (State Executive Council) meeting as duly required by the constitution henceforth.”

The senator further described his factional supporters as “the authentic members” of the party in the state that were duly constituted as members of the National Convention of the party, based on Section 12.8 of APC Constitution.

The Adeniyi faction after its meeting on September 23 accused Fayemi of anti-party roles in the September 19 Edo State governorship election, which saw the party losing to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The party alleged Fayemi of colluding with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in his bid for 2023 vice presidential slot under PDP, if his bid for presidential candidacy in APC fails.

However, APC National Secretariat has called on the warring factions to sheathe their swords to allow for genuine reconciliation.

“The actions are a nullity as the party’s National Secretariat is yet to receive communication from the state chapter on the purported ‘suspensions.’ We strongly advise all members to adhere to our party constitution.

“Governor Kayode Fayemi remains the leader of the party in Ekiti State.

“In line with the mandate of the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee and the President’s admonition to party members to ensure and support ongoing amicable and rancour-free settlement of internal party disputes, we call on our esteemed party members and leaders in Ekiti State to be duly guided.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Architect Paul Omotosho-chaired APC Ekiti State Working Committee is the authentic, valid and duly recognised Executive as no factions or divisions exist in the State Chapter,” Nabena said.

RE: DR. KAYODE FAYEMI ANTI–PARTY ACTIVITIES

After painstakingly reviewing the activities of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, we the authentic members of the Party in the State and Members of State Executive Committee per Section 12.8 of APC Constitution being duly constituted members of the National Convention of the Party, rose from its meeting of the 23rd September, 2020 and resolved as follows:

    1. We note the continued illegalities in the name of the party, being conducted by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who as Governor is an ordinary member of the SEC and ought to have called meetings of this duly constituted body as a critical party organ, has failed to do so since his assumption of office in 2018.

2.That the body currently masquerading as the elected members of the SEC or as the State Working Committee or appendages is unknown to us (as due statutory members of SEC) since no Ward Congress has taken place in Ekiti State APC since inception. All SEC members listed in Section 12.8 of our constitution, (i) to (xxvii) as such are open positions since only duly officiated Ward congresses with INEC observation can fill these positions.

3.As such, only the duly elected members of the APC in the state serving as Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker & Deputy Speaker as well as Principal Officers of the House and Members of the National Convention which includes all present and past National Assembly members today constitute the State SEC of our great party.

4.To this end, in the absence of a properly organized body and meeting, and the continued insistence of the Governor to neglect his duty to initiate Ward Congresses or call a meeting of the SEC to deliberate upon pertinent issues, we as loyal members of our party and members of the State Executive Committee met to rescue our party from continued denigration and abuse, and resolved thus:

1.That Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State is hereby suspended from the Party in view of his numerous anti-Party activities especially his role in the recent concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution.
For five days prior to the Edo elections Gov Fayemi hosted PDP big wig Mr Femi Fani- Kayode in the government house in Ado Ekiti in the run up to the Edo elections . It was here they perfected the coup against our party in Edo State. This is same Fani-Kayode who daily abuses President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the APC as a party as well a vital section of our country. We have evidence of that meeting.

Fani-Kayode specifically said he has gone on his tour as part of an effort between him and Fayemi to build a cross-party alliance and few hours after leaving Ekiti he fired a shot at Asiwaju Tinubu.

1 (a) We also have evidence of celebration by his aides in Ekiti government house and on social media.

1(b) We also recall his role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate. A second tranche of money he sent to Gov Makinde in the election was intercepted by soldiers. The courier Mr Ayo Adegbite, his Chief Protocol Officer was arrested and he immediately disowned and announced his sack . Mr Adegbite remains his aide till date.

1(c) We also recall the support he provided a PDP candidate who challenged an APC Senator Prince Dayo Adeyeye in the Tribunal. He moved the judges to Kaduna to deliver judgement when he knew what he planned against his party was unpopular in Ekiti. We have more to tell on this betrayal and traitorous act of his. APC Senator is out of the Senate today and PDP is in. The relationship between Fayemi and Senator Olujimi of PDP , the beneficiary of his treachery is known to all in Ekiti State.

We also recall his resort to court when majority of party members nominated late Senator Abiola Ajimobi for Deputy National Chairman of the party. He fought Ajimobi till death.

1(d) His fraternisation with the PDP in continuation of his bid for Vice Presidential candidate under the party ( if his bid for Presidential candidate in APC fails ) was masked by commissioning of projects in Rivers State, a smokescreen for his consultation to woo the support of Governor Nyesom Wike last year .

    2. That the Paul Omotosho led faction of APC Executive in the State is hereby declared illegal and suspended from the Party for failure to emerge in accordance to the Constitution of the Party.

3.That Paul Omotoso and his co travellers’s refusal to respect court proceedings in which they are not only joined but appeared in court through the proceedings but defiantly disrespected the court contrary to the hallowed decision of the Supreme Court in OJUKWU vs GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

4.That Paul Omotosho faction of the executive should desist from parading themselves as the Executive Members of the Party in the State and that the Nigerian Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public should take note.

5.That Senator Tony Adeniyi, as a statutory member of the SEC going by our party’s constitution, was elected by all members attending as the Acting Chairman of the State Executive Committee in the absence of direction or directive from the National Body. He is as such the only one thus capable to call the SEC meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.

6.The committee seating also agreed to begin bridge building across our members, statewide and nationally, and set up a special intervention committee, APC Majeobaje Working Group, to be led by Prince Bamgboye Adegoroye, and six other individuals from across our great state. That working group will henceforth do the hard work of rebuilding APC in Ekiti state and prevent the oncoming annihilation of our party if we take no action at the upcoming polls.

We note that the All Progressives Congress is a party of progressives, and must do things only in line with the law. The APC cannot act against its constitution or the law of the land, hence this intervention became urgently necessary and pertinent before marauders destroy the party permanently.

It must be emphasized that with the increasingly discerning capacity and sophistication of our people we cannot afford to take them for granted. We must be able to sustain the relevance of our party in Ekiti State, hold our members and win new members. We are obligated to ensure that the light of our electoral prospect and fortune is not dimmed or extinguished.

    Signed:
For Ekiti State APC State Executive Committee

Edo Election: Obaseki Offers Oshiomole, Ize-Iyamu Olive Branch

Winner of the just concluded Edo State Governorship election held on September 19, 2020, Godwin Obaseki, has extended a hand of friendship to a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole; and the APC candidate in the Saturday election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki, currently wrapping up his first term as Edo State Governor, a position he attained under the APC, and contested again as a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, after being frustrated out by his traducers within the broom party, on Tuesday called on the opposition to put their differences aside and work for the betterment of the state.

Obaseki made this call during his speech after the Independent National Electoral Commission issued certificates of return to him and his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

“To our friends and our brothers on the other side of the divide, we are one family in the pursuit to provide services and public good for our citizens.

“Our citizens have decided that as for now, they trust us more to provide them leadership. It does not mean that they do not have a role to play. It does not mean that they are not part of a family.

“I’m using this opportunity to extend the hand of fellowship to my brother, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his other colleagues in the All Progressives Congress to join us and work with us so that we can move Edo forward.

“On a specific note, I want to use this occasion to call on the former chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, that the fight is over and he should come and join in building the house where he was part of laying the foundation.

“We have no malice, the only thing we disagreed on is in the approach in moving Edo forward.”

The presentation of certificates of return was presented by INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa States, Mrs May Agbmuche-Mbu, made the presentation at the INEC office in Aduwawa, Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The construction of Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway, which had since commenced, would be a dual-carriage road with 10 lanes – four lanes on each side with one pull-out section, while the toll plaza consists of 14 lanes for easy payment of tolls.

Abiodun, while speaking at the flag-off, had said the construction, which was meant to connect Epe-Ajah-Victoria Island in Lagos State, would provide a perfect alternative to ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Meanwhile, in a chat with Echotitbits, Mr. Adetilewa Adetomiwa reiterated that he was prompted to take this action based on some unconfirmed rumors of contract inflation trailing the concession which says the cost of the road is 3.6B per KM.

  • Jonathan, Saraki Congratulate Obaseki, Describe Re-election as Opportunity to Deliver Campaign Promises

Jonathan, Saraki Congratulate Obaseki, Describe Re-election as Opportunity to Deliver Campaign Promises

A former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, and a former senate president, Bukola Saraki, have congratulated Godwin Obaseki over his re-election as Edo State Governor.

Jonathan, in his congratulatory message, tasked the re-elected governor to rise above partisan politics and govern for the good people of Edo State, irrespective of party leaning.

The former president also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for overseeing a process that allowed the votes of the good people of Edo to count.

“I congratulate His Excellency Godwin Obaseki on his re-election as Edo State Governor and the INEC Nigeria for overseeing a process that allowed the votes of the good people of Edo to count.

“Democracy can only be consolidated to promote good governance in our nation and continent when our elections become credible, transparent and truly represent the wish of the voters.

“Democracy is about the good of all the people and not for winners and losers.

“As the election has been contested and won, I urge His excellency to rise above partisan politics and govern for the good of Edo people, irrespective of party leaning.

“This is the way to deepen our democracy and bring development to the people,” Jonathan said.

Saraki, on his part, congratulated Obaseki who he described as “friend and brother” on his re-election as Edo State Governor.

The former senate president called on Obaseki to see his re-election as an opportunity to deliver on his campaign promises and to continually work to actualise the wishes and aspirations of Edo people.

“The result of Edo gubernatorial election represents the true wish of the people who stood firmly behind their governor against power mongers who were determined to foist their choice on the people. It represents the will of the people to vote in free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.

“The people of Edo State who had sleepless nights in order to protect their votes, those who rejected the cash being thrown around to buy their votes and the intimidation to force them to compromise their belief, deserve our praise. Therefore, my congratulations go to all the people of Edo State.

“Let me give kudos to the leaders and governors in our party, PDP, for working together to achieve this victory. PDP leaders and members in Edo State who whole-heartedly accepted Governor Obaseki since he joined the party and co-operated with him to bring about this victory deserve to be appreciated.

“The result of the just concluded election also represents the fact that our people actually desire to be governed by a truly democratic government headed by those they genuinely voted for. It represents the fact that our security and electoral officials can conduct free and fair elections if they have the right atmosphere. We are happy that throughout this election we did not see the military brutalising the people or security officials supervising the snatching of ballot boxes and vandalisation of votes. Thus, the military and other security agencies deserve commendation for this successful poll.

“We also saw how INEC officials maturely handled the complaints of APC agent who sought to create confusion at the state collation centre when Orihomwon Local Government result was about to be declared. INEC and its officials deserve to be commended for their neutrality in this election.

“We can see that the result represents realistic figures from one local government area to the other. No case of outlandish figures being reeled out. That is also a sign of some level of credibility in the process. It is for the above reasons that I have to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping the military out of this election and for giving the instructions that led to the apparent neutrality of members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security officials in the entire process.

“Edo election result is a victory for our country, her people and democracy. We have shown that the glory of the country is more valuable to the citizens than the wish of a tiny power clique,” he said.
